What is an interest certificate?
An interest certificate is a document or statement that shows the interest you have earned in a tax year. These are sometimes called a tax certificate or an interest statement.
These are usually required if you file a Self Assessment tax return (opens in a new window).
Sometimes, you can print a page from your online banking showing the interest earned and use this as evidence. Other times, you will need to request an official certificate from us.
Request an interest certificate for an open account
If your savings account is still open, this is how to request an interest certificate.
- Log in to our internet bank (opens in a new window).
- Select your account.
- Select Settings.
- Select View my interest and tax paid.
- You will see the interest for each of your accounts for the last completed tax year.
- Select Request Interest Certificate for open accounts.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
You can also visit any Nationwide branch. Make sure you bring some ID and your account details.
Request an interest certificate for a closed account
If your savings account is now closed, this is how to request an interest certificate.
- Log in to our internet bank (opens in a new window).
- Select Settings.
- Select View my interest and tax paid.
- Select Request Interest Certificate for closed accounts.
- Select your account type.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
