Life Insurance and Whole of Life Insurance claims, step-by-step

  1. Contact Legal & General

    You’ll need to give them:

    • The policy number
    • The name of the person who has died
    • The cause, date and place of death (if known)
    • Your name and relationship to the person who has died
    • The name of the legal next of kin (if known)
  2. Claims assessed

    Your case handler will let you know if they need any further information or documents. In most cases, you’ll need to send the death certificate.

    Depending on the type of policy and the circumstances of the death they may need to:

    • Request information from the doctor or coroner
    • Request legal documents
  3. Payouts

    Full payments for valid claims are made within 3 days.

Waiver of Premium claims

Waiver of Premium may cover your monthly payments, after 26 weeks if you can’t work due to sickness or injury. Let Legal & General know if you think you’ll need to make a claim. The earlier you tell them, the more they can help.

You’ll need to give them:

  • Your policy number.

  • Details of the reason you've been unable to work.

  • How long you've been unable to work.

Note:

You can only make a Waiver of Premium claim if you chose to add it to your policy when you originally applied.
