Why choose Nationwide contents insurance?

We're working with Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance plc to bring you Home Insurance. So, together we're here for you when you need us.

You can:

    Get cover from only £5 per month.

  • pay monthly
    Spread your payments over the year, with no additional cost.

  • change or cancel your policy at any time
    We won’t charge you for cancelling or updating your details.

  • get a 25% discount year after year for as long as you’re a Nationwide member
    You’re a Nationwide member if you hold a Nationwide mortgage, savings or current account. You’ll also need to have got your quote on or after 21 April 2021.

What's more, you'll get:

  • flexible cover
    Pay for optional add-ons, like accidental damage cover, and switch them on and off as and when you need them.
  • tenants' liability cover
    We’ll cover the cost of repairing damage to your landlord’s property, if you’re responsible for it.
  • alternative accommodation
    If damage to your contents makes your home unfit to live in, we’ll pay to find you somewhere else to live temporarily and store your contents.
  • tenants improvements cover
    Cover for improvements you have made as a tenant of your home, such as replacing kitchen cupboards

To apply for Home Insurance

You need to be at least 18 years old.

What will I be covered for?

With Nationwide contents insurance, you’ll be covered in case of loss or damage caused by specific issues, including:

  • fire
  • flood
  • burglary

However, you won’t be covered for: 

  • normal use or ageing
  • damage due to a lack of maintenance.

The right level of cover

You can choose the cover you need, depending on the total value of your contents.

We’ll give you the option to choose between contents:

  • up to £50,000, or 
  • over £50,000. 

Information:

Remember, some people under-estimate the value of the things they own. Think about how much it would cost to replace everything in your home, should you need to.

We’ll pay for damage to fixed tenants’ improvements and fixed internal decorations in your home which you have added as a tenant.

Choose your insurance excess 

Choose an excess from £50 to £500, in increments of £50. This is what you’ll pay if you need to make a claim.

For claims relating to escape of water (like water leaking from your washing machine) the excess is either; £350, or your chosen excess if that's more.

Note:

You don't pay an excess if you claim on Home Emergency Cover.
