To celebrate the tasty perks of our FlexStudent account, and provide first-year students with bitesize life advice before they head to university, we opened the doors to NationFried - a chicken shop takeover hosted by social media sensations GK Barry and Harry Pinero.

What's even better than £100 cash? £100 cash and free food, of course. And that's exactly what we served up to revellers coming through the doors of NationFried. The one-of-a-kind event was packed full of surprises including a DJ, golden ticket prizes, photo moments and an endless supply of delicious fried chicken.

GK Barry and Harry Pinero welcomed students through the doors of our lively takeaway in a bid to help them become more independent as they gear up to start university.

Dishing up more than just mouthwatering chicken and chips, the Nottingham Trent and the London Metropolitan University alumni, GK and Harry, were on hand to share some friendly advice and essential guidance with eager students.

GK Barry and Harry Pinero help ease Freshers’ Week anxieties

Nearly four in five (77%) of students we spoke to in a recent survey admitted they were worried about moving away from home, with the top concerns being missing family and friends (45%) and feeling out of their comfort zone (39%). Helping smooth over student concerns, GK Barry and Harry Pinero were on hand to share nuggets of wisdom from their own university experience as university freshers.

Students are worried about money and budgeting

The start of university will be the first time most students have had to manage their own budgeting, something over a third (37%) said was a worry. Over eight in 10 (84%) added they were worried about the cost of living as prices continue to soar across the country.

With the intention of helping to ease some of these anxieties, our FlexStudent account offers £100 free cash as one of its many perks. Attendees at NationFried even had the chance to win an extra £100 by having a go on our Super Claw machine.

But no matter what their concerns, over half (55%) of students said they’d be likely to order a takeaway at least once a week, spending an average of £60 a month to treat themselves. Dishing out free fried chicken at NationFried, we wanted to bring to life one of our best perks of the FlexStudent account: a £120 of Just Eat vouchers, to help make those hard-earned takeaways a little easier.
