What's included

  • Worldwide cover for your family including: winter sports, golf, wedding and business cover all included as standard
  • Cancellation cover up to £5,000 per insured person
  • Cover where an insured person has checked-in and the transport is delayed by more than 2 hours
  • Medical expenses cover up to £10m per insured person
  • Cover for travel disruption caused by natural disasters or airline/travel end supplier failure
  • Cover for personal belongings and cash that are lost or stolen (limits apply)
  • Costs associated with obtaining key travel documents (e.g. passports) whilst on your journey
  • Allows all account holders, their partners and dependent children to travel independently of each other

What's not included

  • This policy does not provide cover for medical conditions unless declared to and accepted by us. An extra premium may be required
  • There is an upper age limit of 69. If any person to be insured is aged 70+ you must buy an age extension, which you need to renew annually in order for us to cover you. There is an annual premium of £65 (including Insurance Premium Tax) and only one is required per account. When you call, you will be asked some questions about the health of all insured persons
  • Trips for longer than 31 days are not covered unless trip extension cover has been purchased
  • A £50 excess per person applies to certain sections (see conditions)
  • The policy is only available to permanent UK residents, a UK resident is someone who is registered with a UK GP and spends at least 6 months of any 12 month period in the UK. All trips must start and end in the UK.
  • Trips in the UK must be for 2 or more consecutive nights in pre-booked commercially operated accommodation
  • Any claims under the cancelling your trip and cutting short your trip sections of the policy relating to a member of your immediate family or a travelling companion who have been a hospital inpatient or put on a waiting list for hospital treatment in the 12 months before account opening or trip booking, whichever is later, are not covered
  • There is no cover under the cancelling your trip and cutting short your trip sections of the policy for the unused expenses of anyone who is not insured under this policy. For example, there is no cover for unused expenses relating to a travelling companion, regardless of who paid for the booking

Who is covered?

  • The insurance covers all Nationwide FlexPlus current account holders, their partners and dependent children, and allows them to travel independently of each other throughout the year.
  • Definitions:

    • Dependent Children

      Any child, including a legally adopted, fostered or step child, of the account holder who meets all of the criteria below:

    • Is under 18 or under 24 if in full time education, on the start date of the trip.
    • Lives with the account holder or their other parent.
    • Is not married or in a civil partnership.

      Partner

    • The person the account holder lives with at your home address in a relationship, whether married or cohabiting, as if husband and wife or civil partners, regardless of gender.

Existing medical conditions

This policy does not automatically provide cover for claims directly relating to medical conditions. If you or anyone to be insured by the policy has a medical condition and want to see if cover can be extended please call the insurer U K Insurance Limited on 0800 051 0154. An additional premium may be payable or we may not be able to cover your condition.

When am I covered?

Cover will be in place as soon as the account is opened. Upgraded cover is valid from the start date to the end date, as detailed in the insurance schedule provided to you by U K Insurance Limited.

How can I change my cover?

The FlexPlus Worldwide Family Travel Insurance offers a range of upgrades each for an additional premium:

Medical Conditions

The policy will not automatically cover claims directly relating to a medical condition. If you do not tell the insurer you may not be covered. The insurer will discuss the condition(s) and advise whether they can cover them for free, if an additional premium is required or if they can’t cover the conditions.

Hazardous activities cover

You can upgrade your travel insurance to cover hazardous activities such as bungee jumping. Remember winter sports and golf are already included as standard. For full details of what is covered and what isn't, please see your policy document.

Trip Extension

You're covered for a trip that lasts up to 31 days as standard. If you're planning a longer trip then you can pay to upgrade your cover.

Cruise cover

If you are travelling on a cruise this upgrade will provide additional benefits specifically for a cruise trip that would otherwise be excluded. You are covered to travel on a cruise for all sections of cover that are included as standard with your FlexPlus travel insurance such as emergency medical and travel costs

Extended Personal belongings

If you want to extend the cover provided as standard you can buy an Extended Personal Belongings Upgrade to increase the limits under the Personal Belongings section

Extension of cancelling your trip cover

If you are planning a trip and the value of that trip exceeds the maximum amount under the Cancellation section of the policy, you can extend the amount of cancelling your trip cover available for that single trip.

If you want to add cover for anyone other than the account holder, their partner or any dependent child.

Any upgrades purchased are only valid whilst you remain eligible for FlexPlus Travel Insurance, and are subject to all the same terms and conditions as the standard policy.

What happens if my circumstances change?

  • If a family member stops living at your address they’ll no longer be covered
  • Once you turn 70, you'll need to contact the insurer to buy an age extension, which you need to renew annually in order to remain covered. There is an annual premium of £65 (including Insurance Premium Tax) and only one is required per account. When you call you will be asked some questions about the health of all insured persons. The number to contact is 0800 051 01 54
  • If you cancel your FlexPlus current account your cover including any upgrades will come to an end. You will not be entitled to a refund for any upgrades outside of the 14 day cooling off period.

How do I cancel?

You can cancel your insurance cover at any time. This can be done by closing your FlexPlus account, at which point the benefits and services of our cover will no longer be available. Give us a call on 0800 11 88 55 to find out more.

If you cancel any of the benefits or services of your FlexPlus account, the account must be closed or switched to another current account that you are eligible to open. No refund will be due upon cancellation.

What if I've already got cover?

You may be paying twice for the same cover, so you’ll need to consider which policy provides the best cover for you.

Should I let you know before I travel?

You don't need to tell us before you travel as your cover is already in place as soon as you open your FlexPlus account.

You don’t need to inform the insurance companies that you are going away but you should check the cover meets your needs before starting your journey and if you require an upgrade to your cover, please contact the insurer directly to arrange this.

What should I take with me?

Make sure you have the claims phone number, your FlexPlus account number and your travel insurance policy document.
