Build it your way

Choose what’s included in your policy, and only pay for the cover you want. Start with Buildings, Contents or combined Buildings and Contents insurance. Then buy Optional Extras if you need them – for your garden, home emergencies, accidental damage and more. You’ll be able to see how the price changes as you choose your cover.

Buildings insurance

We’ll pay to put things right if the structure of your home is damaged by something covered by your policy – a flood, fire or storm, for example.

You’ll get these as standard:

  • Cover for repairing or even rebuilding your home, whatever the cost
  • Cover for your garage, outbuildings, fixtures and fittings (e.g. your fitted kitchen or bathroom) as well
  • Up to £50,000 to find somewhere else to stay temporarily if your home is damaged and isn’t fit to live in

You won’t get cover for:

  • Wear and tear
  • Damage due to lack of maintenance

And you’ll need to add an Optional Extra to get:
  • Accidental Damage Cover
  • Matching Items Cover

There are some limits on what we’d pay out and certain things we don’t cover (exclusions). You’ll also need to pay an excess when you claim.

Contents insurance

We’ll pay to repair or replace the contents of your home if they’re lost, stolen, or damaged by something covered by your policy (a flood or fire, for example). You can choose from two levels of cover (up to £50,000 Contents insurance or more than £50,000 Contents cover).

You'll get these as standard:

  • Up to £15,000 to repair or replace jewellery, watches, or anything containing gold, silver or platinum that you keep at home (or up to £30,000 if you choose more than £50,000 Contents cover)
  • Up to £5,000 for the contents your family take with them while they're away studying, or your dependant relatives take with them while in hospital (if you choose more than £50,000 Contents cover this increases to £10,000 for family studying away from home)
  • Up to £750 to cover loss or damage to contents in the open

You won't get cover for:

  • Wear and tear
  • Damage due to lack of maintenance

And you’ll need to add Optional Extras to get:
  • Accidental Damage Cover
  • Out & About Cover
  • Garden Cover
  • Bicycle Cover
  • Matching Items Cover

There are some limits on what we’d pay out and certain things we don’t cover (exclusions). You’ll also need to pay an excess when you claim.

Optional Extras

We’ll tell you how the price changes as you add or remove cover. And you can update your Home Insurance at any time – there’s no admin fee to pay.

Accidental Damage Cover

(Available with Buildings and/or Contents insurance)

Accidental Damage Cover is for those accidental spillages, knocks, drops or DIY disasters that can damage your home and contents.

If you have Buildings insurance, it’ll cover you for repairs to the structure and fittings (e.g. doors, bathroom suites and kitchen cupboards) of your home. So, if you accidentally drill through a pipe or break a window, you’re covered.

If you have Contents insurance it’ll cover you for accidental damage to your contents – if you spill wine on your rug, for example, or the dog knocks over your TV.

You’ll be covered up to the limits shown on your Buildings and/or Contents insurance

You won't be covered:
  • For damage caused by wear and tear or lack of maintenance

Open the Policy Wording booklet to see everything that is and isn't covered.

Matching Items Cover

(Available with Buildings and/or Contents insurance)

If we can’t match part of a set that needs replacing, we’ll replace the whole lot.

If you have Buildings insurance this would cover your fixtures and fittings. So, if your washing machine leaked damaging a kitchen cupboard and we can't repair it or get you a new one, we'd replace the whole set, for example.

If you have Contents insurance it would cover the contents of your home, such as your three-piece suite.

You’ll be covered up to the limits shown on your Buildings and/or Contents insurance

You won't be covered:
  • For damage caused by wear and tear or lack of maintenance
  • For undamaged items where the cost to repair or replace the damaged item is below the policy excess

Open the Policy Wording booklet to see everything that is and isn't covered.

Garden Cover

(Only available with Contents insurance)

As part of our Contents Insurance, you'll receive up to £750 contents in the open cover, however you can choose to add £5,000 further cover for loss or damage to your contents in the garden including, trees, shrubs, plants, lawns, tools and garden furniture.

We’ll pay up to £5,000 to replace or repair your garden and its contents, including re-landscaping design fees

You won't be covered:
  • For damage caused by falling trees or branches
  • If your home has been left unoccupied for more than 60 days

Out & About Cover

(Only available with Contents insurance)

Your personal possessions – your jewellery, watches, mobile phone, camera, laptop or golf clubs, for example – are covered by your Contents insurance while they’re at home.

You can add Out & About Cover so they’re protected against accidental loss or damage when you take them anywhere in the British Isles (the UK, Republic of Ireland and surrounding islands) and for up to 90 days worldwide. We'll ask you to tell us if any of your possessions are worth more than £2,000.

You can choose the level of cover you need – cover for your possessions worth more than £2,000 as well as the option to add £2,500 to £15,000 for cover your everyday items

We’ll pay up to £2,000 for each individual item. You'll need to tell us about any personal possession worth more than £2,000

We’ll pay up to £2,000 for items stolen from a car

We’ll pay up to £500 for cash taken out and about with you

You won't be covered:
  • For garden equipment and furniture left in your garden (you can add Garden Cover for this)
  • For bicycles taken away from home (you can add Bicycle Cover for this)

Open the Policy Wording booklet to see everything that is and isn't covered.

Bicycle Cover

(Only available with Contents insurance)

Your bicycles (including electric bikes) are covered by your Contents insurance while they’re at home.

You can add Bicycle Cover so they’re also protected when you take them anywhere in the British Isles (the UK, Republic of Ireland and surrounding islands) and for up to 90 days worldwide. We’ll ask you to tell us if any of your bikes are worth more than £1,000.

We'll pay up to £1,000 for each bicycle you take away from home (including hired bicycles if you're responsible for them)

Any bicycle worth more than £1,000 needs to be added to your policy

You won't be covered:
  • If your bicycle is stolen when it’s been left unattended and unlocked

Open the Policy Wording booklet to see everything that is and isn't covered.

Home Emergency Cover

(Available with Buildings and/or Contents insurance)

We use a company called CET to provide Home Emergency Cover, so we can help you if the unexpected happens – if your doors and windows are damaged during a burglary or storm for example, or if you lose your main source of heating, lighting or water.

You’ll always be able to contact us in an emergency, and we’ll arrange for one of our recommended repairers to come and make your home safe and secure.

We’ll pay up to £500 for Home Emergency claims

You won't be covered:
  • For power cuts caused by your electric or gas supply being cut off
  • For power cuts caused by industrial action/strikes

Open the Policy Wording booklet to see everything that is and isn't covered.

Legal Cover

(Available with Buildings and/or Contents insurance)

Legal Cover is administered by Cigna Legal Protection. It can help if you want to know more about your rights or the legal aspects of a situation – for example if you (or someone in your family) have been injured, or if there’s an issue with your contract of employment.

It’ll also help cover the costs if you take legal action.

We’ll pay up to £50,000 for Legal Cover claims

You won't be covered:
  • If you contact us about something more than six months after it happened
  • If you don’t have a realistic chance of winning the case

Open the Policy Wording booklet to see everything that is and isn't covered.
