Overview

If you're coming to the end of your mortgage term

If your mortgage is coming to the end of its natural term, you don't need to do anything. After your final mortgage payment we'll then close your account and send you any title deeds, if applicable.

If you're paying off your mortgage before your term ends

You can redeem (completely pay off) your mortgage before the end of your term, however, you might need to pay an Early Repayment Charge. There may also be a Mortgage Exit Fee payable (currently £65). Please check our Tariff of Charges to find out more. Follow our three-step guide on paying off your mortgage early.

Paying off your mortgage early – our three-step guide

Step 1 - Early Repayment Charges

Check if you'll need to pay any Early Repayment Charges (ERC) for paying off your mortgage before your term ends.

You'll find details of any ERC payable in your original mortgage offer.

If you can't find your original mortgage offer, your annual mortgage statement will show any applicable ERC at the date of the statement.

Step 2 - Request a redemption statement

You need to request a redemption statement – this will show how much you still owe on your mortgage plus any Early Repayment Charges you need to make.

You can request your redemption statement:

  • By sending us a secure message in the Internet Bank
  • By calling us on 0800 30 20 10, or
  • By visiting us in branch.

Step 3 - Pay the amount you owe

Once you've received your redemption statement there are a number of ways to pay off your balance depending on your circumstances:

Nationwide current account holders can pay via an internal transfer in the Internet Bank to their mortgage account.

Payments from other banks/building societies can be done with a one-off faster payment using the following details:

Sort Code: 07-00-94
Account number: 44444445
Reference: Your mortgage account number

You can also pay off your account in branch or by sending a cheque to Mortgage Servicing.
