Note keeping your details up to date is important:

Incorrect details could invalidate your policy and stop a claim being paid out.

Review your policy and make changes online

To check your details and review your policy, log in to 'My Account' (opens in a new window) on the Legal & General UK website to:

  • view your policy details
  • view your policy documents
  • view up to 18 months of your payment history
  • send Legal & General a secure message
  • get answers to frequently asked questions

Changes you can make online

Log in to 'My Account' (opens in a new window) on Legal & General’s website to:

  • update your name
  • update your address
  • update your phone number
  • update your email address
  • change marital status
  • update password
  • update user ID
  • send Legal & General a request to change your Direct Debit details
  • change the date that your Direct Debit is collected

You can also make all these changes over the phone.

Changes you can only make over the phone

The following changes to your policy can only be made over the phone:

  • change where you pay your policy from
  • increase or decrease the amount you are covered for
  • change the end date of your policy
  • remove someone from your policy.

Information:

There is no fee for updating your policy, but your Life Insurance premium may change.

Before you make a change

It is worth reviewing your policy to check it’s still right for you. For example, if your policy was to cover the length of your mortgage, is that still the same?

Be aware that:

  • Changes to your policy may affect how much you pay for it.
  • Your existing policy may need to be cancelled and a new policy set up. A new policy may have different terms and conditions.

Cancelling your policy

If you find you are unable to cancel online, you can find details in ‘My Account’ of any further actions you need to take before you can cancel.

If you cancel your policy within 30 days of it starting, Legal and General will return any payments you have made.

If you have a joint policy, both people will need to complete a written authorisation. You can find more information on cancelling joint policies by going to 'My Account' (opens in a new window) on Legal & General UK online.

Information:

If you cancel your policy you won't need to pay a cancellation fee.

Before you cancel your policy

Things to consider:

  • It’s usually cheaper to buy life insurance when you’re younger. Consider changing the policy instead.
  • If you’re considering a new policy, what you’re covered for (for example, types of illness) may be different.
