Nationwide to become UK's biggest branch network as banks continue to close theirs
- Nationwide to become the UK’s biggest group branch network from 4 June
- The 696-branch network includes 605 Nationwide and 91 Virgin Money branches
- Nationwide has pledged in November to keep every single branch open until at least 2030
- Last year, Nationwide supported 6.7m unique branch users and was responsible for 57% of all UK branch-based product openings, with its branch current account sales up 21%
- Nationwide continues to invest in branches and digital service as part of offering customers choice in banking

Cash back: ATM use rises as people use cash to budget with last branches in town seeing spikes of up to 154%
- Cash usage rises for second year in a row with 31.4 million withdrawals made from Nationwide ATMs last year
- Competitor branch closures see average ATM usage increase 55% in towns where Nationwide is last branch in town
- Nationwide ATMs in Twickenham, Redruth and Purley see respective rises in withdrawals of 154%, 144% and 92%
- ATMs not just for withdrawals as nearly half of transactions for services such as mini-statements or paying bills
