Black Friday post-weekend spending update

  • Nationwide customers made over 31.2 million transactions across the weekend, which is 5.8% higher than the weekend period in 2024, which saw 29.4 million transactions.
  • Black Friday on 28th November 2025 saw a record of 11.9 million transactions, which is 8.7% higher than last year’s Black Friday on 29th November 2024, which recorded 10.9 million transactions.

Mark Nalder, Service, Operations & Performance Director at Nationwide said: “We saw an impressive number of transactions across the Black Friday weekend, but undoubtedly, the Friday was a bumper day for shoppers, which came close to our 12 million predicted transactions on the day. Many will have used the sales to get ahead on their Christmas shopping, stock up on everyday items they love or treat themselves to higher ticket items.

Most retailers launched their Black Friday sales very early in November, so it’s interesting to note that the bulk of the shopping still took place across the peak sale period. This is also noteworthy as consumers were also wary for potential scams or deals that seemed too good to be true. Many experts urged consumers to check the pricing history as they found that many items were indeed cheaper at other times of the year, so consumers will be even more aware of this next year.”
