Mark Nalder, Service, Operations & Performance Director at Nationwide said: “As we look towards the weekend, it’s clear that Black Friday has surpassed expectations at 7.3 million transactions this afternoon. We predicted 12 million transactions across the day, so it’s been a busier than expected day for retailers.
"Despite concerns around the deals and value for money available to shoppers on Black Friday, it clearly remains a preferred day for consumers to treat themselves to higher ticket items or household brands, indulge in their hobbies and interests, or stock up on Christmas presents.”
