Nationwide FlexBasic account

FlexBasic is our basic bank account for people aged 18 or over, and could be particularly helpful for customers experiencing financial difficulties. It's an account that supports you with your banking needs. 

  • Extra support - this might be your first current account, you may not have a credit record that would help you qualify for one of our other current accounts, or you might be experiencing financial difficulties.
  • You can take money out and make purchases abroad (fees will apply).
  • We won't charge you any fees if you make a payment and don’t have enough money in your account to cover it.

FlexBasic replaced our Cash Card current account on 1 December 2015.

Overseas Purchases

Make purchases and withdraw cash from ATMs abroad with your debit card (Non-Sterling Transaction Fees apply).

Contactless payments

Use your Nationwide debit card to make payments of up to £30 in seconds.

Mobile payments

You can make payments with your Nationwide debit cards using Apple Pay and Android Pay™ anywhere that contactless payments are accepted.†

Plus our FlexBasic account comes with the following as standard:

  • UK-only call centres, ready to help you 24 hours a day
  • You can also manage your FlexBasic account face to face in close to 700 branches and with our ATM network. (Counter restrictions apply to this account, for details please talk to us in branch.)
  • Withdraw up to £500 cash per day from our ATM network
  • Free text alerts

What you don't get with a FlexBasic account:

  • Interest on balances
  • A cheque book
  • An overdraft
  • Access to free insurance

Rates and charges
