It’s always best to make sure you don’t write a cheque unless you have sufficient money in your account to cover it. As a general rule, assume cheques paid into your account will be available for withdrawal on the fourth working day, and cleared for certainty – which means the money can’t generally be taken back from your account after that time – on the sixth working day.
You should also assume cheques you write will be withdrawn from your account the next working day after they’re deposited.
