Banking basics

Start enjoying the benefits of your account by activating your card and logging in to the Internet Bank, Banking app and Telephone Banking. To get regular updates on your balance and transactions, sign up for text alerts.


Your card and PIN will arrive within 5-7 working days after you open your account, and for security reasons are delivered in separate letters.

Start using the card to activate it, where you can change your PIN if you want to.

You can use your card for contactless payments if you have the symbol on the card. If there's no symbol, and you're eligible, order a contactless card in branch or by phone.

Contact us immediately if you haven't received your card, or it's lost or stolen.

Internet Bank and Telephone Banking

If you've opted in to Internet Bank and Telephone Banking your log in details and card reader (where required) will arrive by post. You can change your log in details to something you remember.

Banking app

Once you have your Internet Bank log in, download our Banking app. You can easily manage your money, from checking your balance, to asking for a new overdraft, or applying for a new account.

Text alerts

Set up free text alerts to help keep track of your money and get:

  • high and low balance alerts
  • regular mini statements
  • payment retry alerts.

Change to a different account

To switch to a different Nationwide current account:

  • log in to the Internet Bank, 
  • visit us in branch, or
  • call us on 0800 30 20 10.
