Coronavirus (COVID-19) and travel insurance

FlexAccount Travel insurance has changed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Make sure you read the Summary of Changes document as this forms part of your policy.

You are no longer covered for cancelling your trip due to COVID-19 or a pandemic, before you travel, unless it is for medical reasons. This applies to all trips booked, or new accounts opened, on or after 1 January 2021.

For more information about travel insurance during coronavirus, read our travel and coronavirus information page.

First, check that you have a FlexAccount travel insurance policy

FlexAccount travel insurance is no longer available to new members. There are a couple of things you need to do to make sure your FlexAccount travel insurance continues year on year – it’s worth checking these before you claim.

Your travel insurance will continue as long as you:

  • keep your FlexAccount open and pay in at least £750 a month (excluding transfers from another Nationwide account held by you or anyone else)
  • remain a UK resident
  • are 69 or younger.

If you’re 70 or older, you'll need to buy an age upgrade each year to keep your travel insurance going. It’s easy to do – just call 0800 051 01 54.

Alternatively, you can manage your FlexAccount travel insurance policy online using the U K Insurance travel insurance portal (opens in a new window). To register with and access the portal, you'll need your FlexAccount current account details. For joint account holders, you'll need to register separately and use the address and personal data on your FlexAccount current account when registering.

How to make claims

For all claims, whether emergency or not, please first notify U K Insurance Limited† of the claim by calling 0800 051 01 54 (available Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, and Saturday, 9am to 2pm). If you have two policies, let both insurers know at the same time of the claim.

What to do in the event of an emergency

In the event of illness or accident abroad (where costs are likely to be greater than £500) or in any other emergency situation (such as the loss of a passport), please call us immediately on:

  • 01413 49 01 09 (UK)
