Coronavirus (COVID-19) and travel insurance

If you opened a new FlexPlus account or booked a trip after 18 March 2020, you will not be covered for Coronavirus related travel claims. This is because it is a known and anticipated risk.

If your trip was booked before 18 March 2020, you may be covered if you held a FlexPlus or FlexAccount.

Important information

FlexAccount Travel insurance isn't available to new members anymore. There are a couple of things you need to do to make sure your FlexAccount Travel Insurance continues year on year – it’s worth checking these before you claim.

What to do in the event of an emergency

In the event of illness or accident abroad, (where costs are likely to be greater than £500) or in any other emergency situation (such as the loss of a passport) Please call us immediately on:

Please state that you are a Nationwide FlexAccount customer.

Our emergency assistance provides 24-hour worldwide emergency travel cover. This includes medical assistance and personal travel referral services for Nationwide FlexAccount holders travelling outside the UK.

Nationwide FlexAccount Travel Insurance is provided by UK Insurance Limited†, so they will be looking after your claim for you

What happens next

An experienced co-ordinator in the UK will help with your enquiry. Most of our co-ordinators are multilingual, so they can talk to the doctors and hospital staff abroad. They’ll make sure:

  • Hospitals are contacted and necessary fees guaranteed
  • Medical advisers are consulted about your return journey to the UK
  • Where medically necessary, assistance is provided when you reach the UK

You may also call the assistance services for information relating to emergency health matters when travelling abroad.

Keep in mind, lines for existing claims are closed on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

For a non-emergency related claim, please notify UK Insurance Limited † of the claim in the first instance. In the event that you have two policies, you should inform both insurers at the same time of the claim.
