What can I do if I don't have a card reader?

Without a card reader, you can still:

  • log into the Internet Bank or Banking app
  • view your accounts
  • transfer money between your accounts
  • send money to someone you've paid before.
  • confirm your online purchases.

To log in without a card reader, make sure we’ve got the right mobile number for you. We can then send you a one-time code each time you log in – so you can prove it’s really you.


Log into the Internet Bank

For your security you will need a card reader to:

  • pay someone new in the Internet Bank or Banking app
  • change your personal details.

You’ll be able to confirm your online purchases using the same card reader. Handy if you don’t have a mobile phone or a good signal.

Online shopping without a card reader

You’ll still be able to confirm online purchases using:

  • a one-time passcode sent to you by text or email
  • a one-time passcode given to you on a landline phone (coming soon)
  • our Banking app (coming soon)

Hints and tips:

Any bank or building society's card reader will work, as long as it accepts your debit card - they're equally safe and secure.

Most of our branches have card readers you can take away with you, or you can order one online and we'll post it to you (this will take around five days).

Note:

If you’ve recently registered for the Internet Bank, it can take up to 7 days for your card reader to arrive.
