What is Paym?

Paym is a free service offered by 15 banks and building societies, including Nationwide. It lets you send up to £250 a day from your current account to someone’s UK bank account using just their mobile number and your Banking app.

Both you and the person you're paying (or expecting money from) must sign up for Paym first. If you're with Nationwide, you can do this through the Internet Bank.

If you've already signed up for Paym with another bank or building society, you'll need to de-register with them before you sign up with us. Contact them to find out how to do this.

Sign up for Paym in the Internet Bank

First, make sure you've registered for internet banking and have our Banking app installed on your phone.

  1. Log into the Internet Bank.
  2. Go to Move money.
  3. Find the Paym section on the right and select Tell me more.
  4. Select Sign up.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions.

We’ll send you a text message during the sign-up process with a code to enter in the Internet Bank. This is to confirm your phone number. If your phone number changes in the future, you can update it in the Paym section of the Internet Bank.

You’ll need to choose one current account to receive Paym payments

If you decide you want to change it at a later date, you can go back into the Paym section of the Internet Bank and choose one of your other current accounts. You can send money from any of your Nationwide current accounts.

You can use a joint Nationwide account

And you can both sign up with your mobile numbers. Together, you'll be able to send up to £250 a day from this account. You won't be able to send £250 each.

After you've signed up

Paym payments are normally instant, but they can take up to 2 hours to reach the other person. If you're paying someone else, they need to be signed up for Paym too.
