Nationwide’s poem of the month for September

At Nationwide, we believe it’s important that our members speak up for what matters to them. It’s a vital part of building society together. And it’s one of the inspirations behind our latest TV advertising campaign.

It’s National Poetry Day on September 28th so more than ever this month we’ve loved hearing from budding poets or writers that have been inspired to share their own poems.

The poem featured this month is from Nick Matthews and is about his local branch. It transports the reader to Sandwich in Kent, with a description of the beach, his friends and the warm welcome at Nationwide’s branch on Short Street.

'When I want good help today' by Nick Matthews

The beach is not too far away
I love the rolling tide,
But when I want good help today
I go to Nationwide.

They really just know everything
To help me save so good,
And all my friends just want to sing
At Nationwide, like they should.

The corner there on Short Street
With a door that will open with ease,
We feel safer with real human beings
And always they effort and please.

We want an expert skilled just here
Not online to deal.
With real helpers there’s no fear
The good advice we feel.

So come on when your bank does go
To Nationwide in Sandwich,
Happy with the staff who know
Accounts, what, when and which.

We’d love to read more of your poems. If you have something that you’d like to share about your local area, please send it to voices@nationwide.co.uk and we might feature it on the website.

This poem is the third in our series of monthly poems, July’s was ‘Picturesque Land’ by Julian Amos, and August’s was ‘Help at Hand’ by Gordon Dee.
