We’d like to warn you about the latest fraud scam we’ve been hearing about from our members.
Some members have reported receiving an automated cold call. It is a recorded message stating that a £39 payment will be taken from their account for ‘Amazon Prime’.
The cold call invites you to press a number to cancel the payment. Do not press the number. Just hang up. Or if you’re unsure, call Amazon back on a number that you trust.
By pressing the number stated in the call, you’ll be transferred to someone who will try to convince you that in order to cancel the transaction you’ll need to provide codes generated from your card reader.
Never give out codes from your card reader over the phone, or in response to a request by text message.
If you give out your card reader codes over the phone, or in response to a request by text message, it can allow criminals to log into your internet bank account, view your statements, change your details and set up, make or change payments from your account.
