Changing lives with every slice

Many of our branches and administration centres are hosting coffee mornings across the UK to help raise funds for Macmillan Grants, which help people with limited financial resources with the extra costs that cancer can bring.

The grants can be used for household items to help manage the impact of cancer and to ensure a more comfortable home environment.

Four in five people living with cancer are, on average, £570 a month worse off because of their diagnosis.

Changing lives together

Nationwide Building Society and Macmillan Cancer Support have been working together since 1993, to provide support to people following a cancer diagnosis. Over this time, Nationwide colleagues and members have raised more than £9 million to improve the lives of people affected by cancer. This amount has been invested into various Macmillan services, including helping fund two Cancer Information Centres, Welfare Benefits Advisers in five regions of the UK and funding for the Macmillan Support Line.

Over the last two years, you’ve helped us raise £338,000 to fund hundreds of Macmillan Grants for people such as Matthew – he was diagnosed with leukaemia and turned to Macmillan for help. Not only was Macmillan able to provide him with the information he needed, he also received a Macmillan Grant.

Matthew comments: “When we received the grant from Macmillan it was such a nice feeling. I realised there are people out there looking out for you who want to help.”

Every cake and coffee matters
