How to apply for a Community Grant

Have you got a project that tackles a housing problem in your local community but need some funding? Here’s how we could help.

What you need to know

Is your project one we’re likely to support? If you think it might be, download the eligibility criteria for the full picture.

What we’ll fund

Local housing projects that will strengthen your local community by supporting the most vulnerable, find new approaches to increasing the supply of housing or will reinvent renting for both tenants and landlords. There are grants of up to £50,000 available.

Who can apply?

We’re inviting charities, Community Land Trusts and housing co-operatives to apply for grants of between £10,000 and £50,000 - either alone or as part of a joint bid. There are some exclusions, like political or profit-making activities, but these are explained fully in the eligibility criteria.

Application deadline

Applications are now open until 5pm on Friday 7 December for the following regions:

  • London
  • South West
  • South East
  • East of England
  • Central
  • North West & North Midlands

Successful applicants will be contacted in March 2019.

How to apply

First, be sure your region is taking applications – see above. Next, read through the eligibility criteria in detail, making sure you have all the required supporting documents ready to upload. Once you’re all set, hit Apply now – this will take you to an online application form hosted by UK Community Foundations. They are the national network for all accredited Community Foundations across the UK and are helping us deliver this grant funding programme.

What next?

Once you’ve submitted your application it’ll be assessed, possibly with a phone call or visit from our partner, UK Community Foundations. All suitable projects will then be passed to the regional Community Board to decide which projects will receive funding.

If you've got a question about our Community Grants, we'd love to hear from you.

Who we currently work with

Nationwide Foundation

The Nationwide Foundation

An independent charity set up 20 years ago. Its vision is for everyone in the UK to have access to a decent, affordable home. The Foundation has so far awarded more than £32 million to over 3,000 charitable causes.

We’ve been working with Shelter, the housing and homelessness charity, for the last 17 years. Every year they help millions of people struggling with bad housing and homelessness, providing them with advice, support and legal services.

St Mungo's

St Mungo’s

We’ve developed a new partnership with homelessness charity St Mungo’s, aimed at helping people who are rough sleeping away from the streets and into accommodation. St Mungo’s works directly every day with people who are sleeping rough, in hostels and at risk of homelessness to support people to rebuild their lives.

If your project meets our eligibility criteria, you can apply online now.
