Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD)

Nationwide is an official supporter of the TCFD and is committed to following their disclosure guidelines. Our current disclosure is included within our Annual Report and Accounts where we also highlight the anticipated developments in our maturity over the coming 12 months.

Living Wage Employer

The real Living Wage, as set by the Living Wage Foundation each year, is an independently calculated rate that ensures workers can meet the cost of living. It’s higher than the Government’s national living wage, which is based on a percentage of median earnings rather than on actual living costs. Nationwide has been an accredited Living Wage Employer and Principal Partner of the Foundation since 2014. Our Director of Shared Services, Laura Faulkner, also joined the Foundation’s Advisory Council in 2019 to help shape the future of the campaign for real living wages.

Social Enterprise UK – Buy Social Corporate Challenge

The Buy Social Corporate Challenge is a Government-backed initiative run by Social Enterprise UK. It helps large businesses to engage with innovative suppliers and embed sustainability and diversity into their supply chains. Nationwide joined the Corporate Challenge in 2018, after jointly commissioning the ‘The Hidden Revolution’ report on the social enterprise sector with The Co-op in 2017.

As part of our commitment to the UN Global Compact, we're also a member of the Modern Slavery Working Group of the UN Global Compact Network UK. This working group explores challenges and best practices.

Unseen work in partnership with communities, business, governments and other organisations to stamp out slavery for good and offer safety, hope and choice to victims of trafficking. We partnered with Unseen in 2020 to raise awareness of modern slavery across the Society and complete enhanced due diligence on third parties potentially at higher risk due to factors such as industry and location. ​
