In December 2020, we piloted a colleague engagement activity that focused on driving our agenda to be a greener society. Its purpose was to provide colleagues with the information they needed to make greener choices, start conversations around what is possible and inspire lifelong green behaviours.
Using gamification, colleagues were encouraged to sign up to a series of simple, yet impactful pledges and their success was monitored over a 4-week period. Across our business communities, colleague engagement was high, and the feedback was positive, demonstrating an increase in colleagues switching to green energy suppliers and energy efficient lighting, among other successes.
By the end of the pilot, over 350 colleagues logged over 2,000 meat free days – and with each meat free day saving approximately 3.4kg, that’s 6,800kg of CO₂ saved over the course of the pilot – more than 9,500 car miles. Nearly 200 of our colleagues who engaged in the pilot are also now using green energy in the home.
We’re working to evolve this pilot to become a Society-wide initiative, driving our green agenda deeper into our culture.
