How do I register for Internet Banking?

Go to www.nationwide.co.uk and choose 'Register' underneath Internet Banking Sign on near the top left of the screen.

Alternatively you can visit your local branch.

Whichever way you choose you'll be asked to give us some brief personal details and choose some security information. An individual customer number and passnumber will then be posted to your registered address.

How do I re-register for your Internet Banking service?

To re-register, use the following link: http://www.nationwide.co.uk. Choose the 'Register' option below the Internet Banking logo, located at the top left corner of the page.

You'll receive a reminder of your customer number and a new passnumber in the post within seven working days.

Once re-registered, please do not attempt to sign on until you have received your new details, even if you recall your old details. To do so will invalidate the new details.

I'm trying to register for Internet Banking. Why won't it accept my account number?

To check you're entering the number in the right format click on 'Finding and entering your account number' underneath the account number box on the Registration form.

If you are trying to register with an Ex-Portman account, unfortunately you are currently unable to register these accounts for our Internet Banking Service until they have been migrated onto the Nationwide systems.

Ex-Portman Savings accounts will start to be migrated from the end of this year and will finish at various stages throughout next year. Once the accounts are migrated, online banking facilities can then be established.

Therefore we anticipate that customers will begin to have access to online banking facilities as follows:

Instant Access Accounts   -   March 2008

Notice Accounts   -   June 2008

Bonds   -   September 2008

The migration of mortgage accounts is a more lengthy process due to the complexity of products, therefore mortgage account holders will have access to online banking facilities around:

Mortgages   -   Early 2009

As migration completes these dates will become more accurate and we hope to be able to give you a more exact date nearer the time.

I'm not sure what my account number is

You can find your account number:

On your card:

  • on a FlexAccount, CashBuilder, InvestDirect or SmartAccount your account number is printed along the bottom of the card. Take care not to confuse this with the large card number printed in the centre as this changes every time a new card is issued
  • on a Credit Card or Gold Card your 16 digit account number is printed across the middle of your card e.g. 44935XXXXXXXXXXX

On your statement:

  • for FlexAccount, CashBuilder, InvestDirect and SmartAccount your account number is at the top of your statement
  • on Credit Card and Gold Card statements your 16 digit account number is on the top right corner and also on the detachable Bank Giro credit slip at the foot of the statement, e.g. 44935XXXXXXXXXXX
  • on Mortgage year end statements your account number is on the top left hand side

On your e-Savings welcome letter:

  • on your e-Savings welcome letter your 8 digit number appears in the boxed section

On your Savings Account Passbook:

  • your account number is printed on the inside of the front cover of your passbook

On your Savings Account Bond Certificate:

  • your account number is printed on the front of your certificate

On Your Notice of Mortgage Rate Change:

  • your account number will be displayed within the 'Payment Details' box at the bottom of the page

How do I register for Internet Banking using a foreign address?

  • Enter your house name and number if you have one. If not you can leave this blank
  • Enter XX0 0XX as the postcode
  • Enter your street name
  • Enter the town/city
  • In the County field, enter the country, i.e. Spain

Don't use the 'find address' button as it won't pick up foreign addresses.

You should receive your sign on details within 10 working days, although this is subject to the postal service.
