If your current account no longer meets your needs you can either close it or switch to another one of our products. We have a range of accounts available to meet a variety of needs. 

You can’t close an account over the phone or if you’re overdrawn. If any charges are due on your account, then we’ll close it the day after the charges are paid.

If you're closing an account that's linked to an online only savings account, you'll need to close that account first - see below for how to do this.

Close your account online

  1. Log in to the Internet Bank
  2. Select ‘View accounts’ at the top of the page
  3. Select the account you want to close
  4. Choose ‘Other account services’ from the menu on the left side
  5. In the ‘Account services’ section, select ‘Close Account’
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the form.

Once completed you’ll need to print and post the form to us. We will post any money left in the account by cheque to your registered address within two working days upon receipt of your form.

If you’re signed up to use Paym, you'll automatically be de-registered from Paym when your account is closed.

Close your account in branch

Please visit your nearest branch, taking with you:

  • any account items like cards and cheque books
  • your passport or driving licence as proof of identity.

Accounts can be closed in any of our branches. It must be the account holder (or Power Of Attorney or Court Of Protection) that asks us to close the account.

Why am I still receiving statements?

We'll still keep in touch and send you correspondence – even if your account is empty. If you don't want us to, you can ask us to close your account.
