Change your name

To change your name, fill in our change of name form and either visit a branch or post it to us with the relevant original documents. If you’re changing a business, club, charity or society name, you must visit your local branch with your documents.

We’ll send you a new card within 3 – 5 working days and chequebook (if you have one) within 7 – 10 days.

We need to know:


  • a sort code and account number for one of your accounts
  • your existing forename(s), surname and date of birth
  • your new forename(s), surname and email
  • the reason for your name change – marriage / civil partnership, divorce / dissolution order, or deed poll / statutory declaration.

If you need to change details on a Child Trust Fund, download the Change of Registered Contact Form, and send it to the Legal & General address at the top of the form.

If you have a passbook, we can update your passbook the next time you’re in branch if it isn’t full up.

You must send the original document from the following list - we can’t accept photocopies or certified copies:


  • marriage certificate
  • civil partnership certificate
  • decree absolute
  • dissolution order
  • deed poll
  • statutory declaration.

Change of name for insurance or investment products

Contact your policy provider(s) directly to change your name. Find a list insurance and investment providers, and their phone, email and addresses to contact.

Change of name for a business, club, charity or society

You must come into branch to update the name of your business, club, charity or society. We must see the originals of the following supporting documents – we can’t accept photocopies or certified copies.


Clubs and societies


  • the club / society constitution and/or rules; or
  • a letterhead confirming the club/society name; or
  • a letter confirming purpose of the club/society.

Registered charities


  • The official document from the Charity Commission quoting the registered charity number.
  • If the charity is a limited company we also need the Certificate of Incorporation.

Business


  • The Companies House document.
