Nationwide Building Society - a sponsor of football in the UK for over a decade – announced in 2006 a deal with the Irish Football Association to extend its sponsorship of the Northern Ireland team. This four-year deal runs from the start of the 2006/2007 season until the end of the 2009/2010 season.

Howard Wells, Chief Executive of the Irish Football Association, commented: "We are pleased to have extended the Nationwide partnership at a time when IFA teams at all levels are moving forward.

"The European Championships will prove another interesting marker with regards to progress and we look forward to working together with Nationwide to develop the relationship further in the interests of football in Northern Ireland."

Chris Hull, Nationwide's Sponsorship Controller, said: "We are thrilled to extend our sponsorship of the Northern Ireland team and we have now been involved in football in the Province for almost a decade.

"We have also previously sponsored the Nationwide Gold Cup and Nationwide Irish Cup.

"Nationwide is delighted to re-affirm its commitment and relationship with the local community through the Northern Ireland team.

"We have branches in the largest towns in Northern Ireland and we will continue to bring the sponsorship to life through opportunities for football supporters, our members and employees.

"There have been special moments during our time as the sponsor of Northern Ireland - including that famous victory over England at Windsor Park - and we hope that the players can build on that success in the coming European Championship Qualifying campaign.

"Sponsorship forms a very important part of our communication process and it is a great way to promote our brand to a huge audience.

"As the world's biggest building society and a growing business, it is very important for us to continue to find powerful ways of communicating the benefits that we can offer to our members and to potential new customers."
