1. What is a security certificate?
The security certificate shows that the website is encrypted and the organisation has been authenticated according to the most rigorous industry standard. Extended Validation (EV) is a certificate upgrade that makes it easier for you to identify our site is genuine.
EV is being developed for other browsers – we'll let you know when it's available.
These changes will happen without you needing to configure your browser, and the Internet Bank will continue to operate in the same way.
2. My address bar doesn't go green, what's wrong?
If you're using IE 7 and your browser address bar does not go green, it could be because your phishing filter is not enabled. To change the settings:
- go to the Tools option, then Phishing Filter on your browser
- select Phishing Filter Settings
- check you're in the Advanced Tab on the menu that pops up, and then scroll down to Security
- find Phishing Filter in the list and make sure that the 'disable phishing filter' option is unchecked and that the 'turn on automatic website checking' option is checked
3. How do I know which browser I'm using?
You can check which browser you're using by choosing 'help' on the toolbar and then choosing the 'about' option. This will tell you which browser and version you're using.
4. I use a browser other than IE 7, can I get the new certificates?
The new certificate will be used regardless of which browser you use, however, nothing will appear different unless you're using IE 7. Using a different browser is just as safe.
5. I use a different browser / operating system, will my security be compromised?
No. The level of security for users of our Internet Banking service is industry-standard. The certificate is a way of you being sure our site is genuine.
Visit www.microsoft.com to download IE 7.
7. My address bar has gone red, what should I do?
If your address bar goes red, it's likely you have navigated to a fraudulent website that can't identify itself via a certificate. You don't need to report this to us, just close your browser window and don't disclose any personal information on the website.
8. I keep getting a certificate error message, what's wrong?
Check the host name on the certificate, this is done by clicking on the padlock in the address bar. The start date should be in the past, the expiry date in the future and the host should show 'olb2.nationet.com'.
If you still have problems accessing the sign on page, you'll need to make sure your PC has the latest Windows Updates from Microsoft, you can do this by running the latest Windows Update http://www.update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/ If after this you're experiencing further problems, check the 'custom' option at the above website and install the 'root certificate' update.
