We have to constantly develop our Internet Banking security to combat the increasingly sophisticated methods used by today's fraudsters. One of the latest methods involves installing a virus or Trojan onto a customers PC.

To help our customers stay safe online we’ve introduced Card Reader security. In conjunction with up to date anti virus and firewall software this new technology will help to:

• Prevent fraudsters from signing on as a customer and removing funds
• Protect customers who may unknowingly have a virus or Trojan on their computer
• Provide assurance that the transaction has been initiated by the customer and the details have not been intercepted and changed by a fraudster

Money obtained in this way is often used to fund criminal activity, meaning all of us have to bear the cost of online fraud.

Chip and PIN technology allows us to provide this extra level of protection when banking online. If you’re registered for our Internet Banking service, and have a FlexAccount Visa debit card we need to confirm it’s you who is carrying out the transaction. We'll therefore ask you to use your card and Card Reader to authorise it.
