* Welcome to Nationwide's Card Reader Demo
3
* In this demo, you'll learn how to use your Visa debit card and Card Reader as authorisation when you make a payment to someone else's account, or set up a regular arrangement.
4
* There's no change to the way you enter your payment information when you make a payment, or set up a regular arrangement. Just do these as normal, then once you've confirmed the information is correct, a new screen will appear.
* You'll only see this new screen if you need to use Card Reader Security.
* Remember, you won't be asked to use your card and Card Reader to transfer money between your own Nationwide accounts.
* The steps you need to follow are clearly numbered on the screen.
5
* If at any time you need help, use the links on the right hand side of the screen.
* These take you to our website where you can find out more about Card Reader Security, get access to demos, find answers to frequently asked questions, and find out what to do if you're having any problems using Card Reader Security.
* Step 1 on the Internet Banking screen will ask you to insert your card into the Card Reader.
* Check the card you're using in the Card Reader matches the card number shown on the screen. If you have more than one Visa debit card you'll be asked to choose which one you want to use from a drop down list.
6
* Put your Visa debit card into the Card Reader. Ensure you insert it with the chip downwards and facing you.
* The Card Reader will display 'select function'. Now press the blue 'sign' button on the Card Reader as instructed in step 2...
* ...on the Internet Banking screen.
7
* Enter your card PIN into the Card Reader as instructed in step 3, and press the green 'OK' button.
* The Card Reader will confirm if the PIN is OK. (Please note, the PIN you need to use is the one you normally use in an ATM or a shop).
* Remember, if you make a mistake on your Card Reader at any time, press the yellow 'CL' button to delete the last number you entered, or the red 'C' button to delete all the numbers.
8
* When the Card Reader prompts you to 'Enter Ref', type in the number shown in step 4 ...
* ...of the Internet Banking screen. (this is the account number of the person you're paying. If you're paying another organisation, this will be their account number and not your customer reference). Now press the green 'OK' button.
9
* Next, type the amount you wish to transfer into the Card Reader. This must match the amount shown on the Internet Banking screen in step 5.
10
* Make sure you enter pounds and pence. If there's no pence, just put in two zeros. Now press the green 'OK' button.
* Then an 8 digit code will appear on the Card Reader.
11
* Type this 8 digit code into the box on the Internet Banking screen as shown in step 6. You don't have to include a space.
* Your Card Reader will automatically switch off after 40 seconds if you don't press any buttons. Don't worry, this won't affect your transaction. Simply re-insert your card and start again at step 2.
* Finally, once you've entered all the information correctly, click 'Authorise' on the Internet Banking screen to complete the transaction. You can now remove your card from the Card Reader.
12
* If you've entered all the information correctly, and your transaction has been authorised, the next screen you see will show your confirmation as normal. If you leave any information out, or make a mistake, your transaction won't be completed. Instead of confirming your transaction the Card reader screen will remain.
13
* Any information you need to correct will be highlighted in red as shown in this example. You'll also find additional help and information in the help box on the right hand side of the screen.
* Once you've re-entered the information as directed on the Internet Banking screen, and have successfully authorised your transaction, the next screen you see will be the normal confirmation screen.
