You must be aged between 7 and 18 to apply to open a Smart account for yourself. If you are under 16, a parent or legal guardian can open the account and manage it on your behalf.

If you are an adult applying on behalf of a child, you must hold a Nationwide current account, savings account, mortgage or credit card and the child you are applying for must hold a Nationwide savings account or FlexOne current account.

  • About 10 minutes to complete the secure online form
  • Your existing Nationwide Savings or FlexOne account number
  • A valid email address (so we can keep you updated with any important information)

  • The child you are applying to open and manage an account for must be aged between 0 and 16

You will need

  • The account number of your existing Nationwide current account, savings account, mortgage or credit card.
  • The child's existing Nationwide savings or FlexOne account number.

  • A child must be aged between 7 and 18 to apply for themselves.
  • An adult can open and manage an account on behalf of a child aged between 0 - 16.
  • You'll need at least £1 to open your account.
