ISA Transfers

It's possible to transfer your ISAs from one provider to another, or from one ISA to another ISA with the same provider.

Since 1 July 2014, transferring your ISA has never been more flexible, as you are now able to transfer money from a Stocks & Shares ISA into a cash ISA.

Please note, we can't accept transfers of Stocks & Shares ISAs from other providers to the Stocks & Shares ISA provided through us.

Why should I transfer?

You may find that your old ISAs are on a low rate. This may be the case if you have a variable cash ISA, or your fixed rate ISA has matured and has been moved into a lower rate account.

To make sure you benefit from the best rates, you could transfer these ISAs to one with a higher rate, or one that better suits your needs.

Please note that not all ISA accounts accept transfers in so you may need to shop around to find the right one for you.

How long does it take to transfer ISAs to Nationwide?

For cash ISAs, it will take up to 15 working days for us to complete your transfer once we've got your transfer request. It may take longer if your ISA funds aren't free to move or have a notice period.

For Stocks & Shares ISAs, industry guidelines recommend that the full transfer process takes 30 days from start to finish (from receipt of your application); however, you need to be aware that this can depend upon the availability of proceeds from the sale of your Stocks & Shares ISA. Stocks & Shares ISAs can include a variety of investment types which could each take different times to close down or sell, this may mean that it takes longer than 30 days for your current provider to make the proceeds available for transfer.

The good news is, thanks to our Savings Promises, your money will start earning interest as soon as we receive your transfer application provided the funds are free to move and not subject to any notice period*.

* When you transfer a Stocks & Shares ISA to us you will start earning interest as soon as we receive your application. If funds are not received within 30 days, we will stop paying interest until funds are transferred to us.

Choose what you want to do

Remember

It's important that you don't withdraw the money in an ISA when transferring. If you do this, you'll lose the tax efficient benefits. Make sure you use your new providers transferring service.

Transferring to a Nationwide ISA you've already opened

  • Some of our cash ISAs from previous tax years also accept transfers in (Fixed Rate ISAs do not allow transfers in from existing ISAs once opened. This also applies to topping up your FRISA where you can not use or transfer in existing ISA funds to top up your FRISA during 1 – 31 July).

To request a transfer in, you'll need to fill in an external cash ISA transfer pack.

When you fill it out, you'll get the chance to tell us which cash ISA you want to transfer into, or, if you've not got one yet, which cash ISA you want to apply for.
