How to apply

Applying for a FlexDirect account is quick & easy

Start by telling us who you are:

  • It only takes about 10 minutes
  • We'll give you an instant decision
  • Option to switch your Direct Debits, standing orders and bill payments to us. Find out about switching.

To make your application as quick as possible, you'll need your address details for the last 3 years handy and also your employer's address if you're employed. (If you can't remember an address you can always find it using the Royal Mail address finder.)

Important: If you're applying for a new account and want to switch to us at the same time, please consider postage times, holidays etc. when choosing the date you want your switch to complete on, especially if you also want your old account closed once your new account is open. If you ask us to close your old account your existing card will be cancelled on the completion date and you’ll need to use your Nationwide card from that date onwards.

If you're upgrading from FlexAccount to FlexDirect, the travel insurance and promotional offers that come with your FlexAccount will stop when you upgrade to FlexDirect. The way your overdraft is charged will also change. Please make sure you understand these important points before you upgrade.

Upgrading to FlexDirect

If you're an existing FlexAccount customer, please call the number below. We'll ask you to set some online banking details as part of your application.

If you're upgrading from FlexAccount to FlexDirect, the travel insurance and promotional offers that come with your FlexAccount will stop when you upgrade to FlexDirect. The way your overdraft is charged will also change. Please make sure you understand these important points before you upgrade.
