We've always taken security and peace of mind for all Nationwide customers very seriously. That's why we champion a range of measures to protect you against card fraud.
Active account monitoring
Active account monitoring looks at patterns of transactions on your account, and is something we automatically do, around the clock. That way, as soon as we see anything suspicious, we can contact you immediately to confirm the spending is genuine and prevent your card being misused.
Chip and PIN
Chip and PIN is an industry-wide initiative designed to combat fraud. Before Chip and PIN, you just needed to sign a receipt to make a purchase, and signatures can be forged. You now need to enter your personal four digit number (your PIN) each time you make a purchase on your card. It's a far more secure process.
Fraud loss protection
What's more, if anyone uses your card or PIN without your or any additional cardholder's permission, providing you acted with reasonable care, we'll refund money taken from your account.*

*If you have acted with reasonable care then your liability for any losses which occur before you tell us will be limited to £50. Please refer to your account terms and conditions for further details.
