Our commitments to you

We’re committed to lending to First Time Buyers

We know it can be difficult finding your first mortgage to buy your first home. That’s why Nationwide is totally committed to lending to First Time Buyers. In fact, once every six minutes we help someone buy their first home.

We’ll help you learn about mortgages and buying a home

Taking out your first mortgage can be daunting – there’s so much jargon it can seem like a different language. That’s why we asked the Nationwide Education team to commission a completely independent guide to taking out your first mortgage and buying your first home. You can view it online, on a tablet or your mobile.

We’ll continue to find ways to help you buy your first home

We know how difficult and overwhelming it can be for First Time Buyers to take that first step - the deposit alone makes it difficult for many to move on from renting. That’s why we work hard to find ways of helping you get on the property ladder – from our ‘Save to Buy’ scheme, where you can save up towards a 5% deposit mortgage, to schemes where we’ll give you a mortgage to buy a ‘shared ownership’ home from a Housing Association or a ‘shared equity’ home from a builder. And we’ll carry on looking for new ways to help you buy that first home.

We’ll guide you through the mortgage process

Once you’ve learnt a little about mortgages, saved up for your deposit, and found your very first home, we will then guide you through the mortgage process. Whether you choose to get advice from one of our mortgage experts in branch, buy over the phone or online or through an independent broker, we aim to do everything to make the mortgage process as easy as possible for you. Which will leave you time to pick out the curtains and choose the colour of your new walls.
