How to apply

There are three ways you can apply:

Mortgages marked "Branch or Phone" in the rates section are not available online.

If you are an existing Nationwide mortgage customer and your current deal is coming to an end or you want to borrow more, you will need to apply by phone or in your local branch.

Online applications:

Apply for your mortgage online in less than 30 minutes, and get an instant decision in principle.

  1. 1. Select product

View our mortgage rates to help you choose your mortgage, and start the application process. You can use our calculators to help you get an idea of how much we could lend you, then compare payments with our payment calculator.

  2. 2. Check Key Facts and full illustration

You will need to read our Key Facts document, and we will create a full illustration based on the mortgage that you wish to apply for. These documents will form the basis of your full offer should you proceed, so please read them carefully.

  3. 3. Enter your income and outgoing details

This is so that we can confirm what you can afford, and what we will be prepared to lend you.

  4. 4. Receive decision in principle

We will let you know immediately whether we will be prepared to offer you the mortgage and amount you require, or whether we will need to refer it to our applications team.

You can use your decision in principle when making an offer on a property, as estate agents can take this as proof of affordability. Once you have your decision in principle you can continue with the full application online.
