Credit Reference Agencies
Credit Reference Agencies are independent companies who collect a wide range of personal data, including financial history. Like most financial organisations, shops and businesses, we use this information for fraud prevention and when deciding whether to lend money or provide credit. We and other lenders also provide the agencies with information about how accounts are managed, which other lenders may use for their own credit assessments.
If you have had payment difficulties it is likely that they will be recorded with the agencies. This may mean that you find it more difficult to borrow money or obtain credit in the future or that you may not be able to access the lowest interest rates.
You are entitled to see the information the agencies hold about you and can correct any errors. You can request your report online or by writing to any of the agencies shown below. The fee is £2 and you will need to provide:
- Your full name
- Your date of birth
- Your addresses for the last 6 years
