Top up/Switch

If you're an existing Nationwide investment customer, the way in which you can make changes to your investment will depend on when you purchased it.


In 2009, Nationwide began to phase in a slightly different investment offering. This was using an investment service known as the Investor Portfolio Service (IPS). 

Managing your IPS investment

If you have an investment as part of the Investor Portfolio Service your Client Reference will be eight digits long and start with 50 e.g. 50xxxxxx.

It is easy to top up or switch the current range of IPS funds online.

Already registered for IPS

If you are already registered for the online service, you can log in here to manage your investment. Please make sure you have your debit card to hand as you will need this if you want to make a top up payment.

Not yet registered for IPS

If you have not yet registered for this service, you can still top up online. Please make sure you have your debit card to hand as you will need this if you want to make a top up payment. If you want to switch your funds online, you will need to register for the service first.

Please note: Making changes to the services listed below are currently unavailable via the online IPS.

  • Existing jointly held investments
  • The Portfolio Bond product
  • Funds that we no longer offer as part of our current product range
  • Setting up a regular premium 

In these circumstances please either use this letter template or this Portfolio Bond top up form to advise Legal & General of the changes you want to make.

Please ensure you have read the latest version of the:

Portfolio Bond Key features (PDF - 1,200KB), Portfolio Bond Funds Key features (PDF - 139KB) and Portfolio Bond Guide (PDF 921KB).

If your fund is not mentioned in the latest version of the Funds Key Features, please contact Legal & General who will be able to provide you with a copy of the relevant documents.

Managing your non IPS investment

If you were sold an investment prior to IPS becoming available, your customer number will not start with 50. If you are one of these customers and want to make changes to your investment, please contact Legal & General using this letter template. Please ensure you have read the latest version of the Simplified Prospectus. If you do not have a copy, please ask Legal & General to supply one. If you need any help with completing your request, you can contact the Non-IPS administration team on 0845 603 0120. Please note Legal & General are unable to give advice on this number. Nationwide has not provided any advice on whether changes to your investment(s) are appropriate. If you require advice on making changes to your investment then please arrange an appointment with a Senior Financial Consultant. Your Senior Financial Consultant can only offer advice on funds sold currently through the IPS platform.
