Verified by Visa is a free service offered by Nationwide Building Society in partnership with Visa. This service provides secure online shopping when using your Nationwide Visa debit or credit card at over 300,000 online retailers.
This service uses sophisticated Risk-Based authentication and you will be shown a "Processing ..." page after you have entered your payment details and selected to checkout. In some cases as an extra security measure you may be requested to provide additional information to verify your purchase.

No. Verified by Visa (VbV) is an industry initiative which greatly reduces the risk of fraud when you're making online purchases.
In response to customer feedback and to improve our customer experience when shopping online, we no longer require a password to verify a purchase. Sophisticated authentication security measures are working behind the scenes to prevent fraud. However, as an extra security measure you may still be requested to provide additional information, but not a password, to aid purchase verification.
When you are re-issued a new Nationwide credit or debit card, the Verified by Visa (VbV) service is automatically updated with the new card information. You do not need to do anything in order to continue using the VbV service.

Yes. One of the great advantages of Verified by Visa is that you can use it from any computer connected to the internet.
When you make a purchase online at a participating retailer enter the payment details as usual when requested to do so. Upon checkout Verified by Visa will verify the purchase automatically but, as an extra security measure you may be asked to provide additional information.
The information you are supplying is used as an extra security measure to make sure you are the genuine card holder. This information is automatically checked against your Nationwide account records.
The account number can be found at the bottom of your card to the right of the sort code. The card shows all of your account number, however it is only the last 4 digits you need to provide.
The Signature Panel Code is the last three digits that appear on the back of your card, on the signature panel. It is used as an extra security measure to make sure you are in the possession of the card you are shopping with.

Yes. To complete the purchase at such retailers, simply follow the regular checkout process. However you won’t benefit from the added security of Verified by Visa. This service only applies to online purchases at merchants participating in the Verified by Visa service.
