Cookies

A cookie is a text file placed on your computer by Nationwide, which is used to provide extra security.

You will need cookies enabled to use Internet Banking

To use our Internet Banking service you will need to allow Nationwide to place a temporary cookie on your computer. This change has been made to further enhance the security of the Internet Banking service.

How to enable cookies

You will need to either:

  • Change your browser settings to enable cookies for all sites across the Internet

OR

  • Add Nationwide to your trusted sites list

If you're sure your browser is set to accept cookies, you may be seeing this page as you're using an out of date URL. If you have Internet Banking saved as a favourite, make sure the address saved is www.nationwide.co.uk and access Internet Banking by clicking on 'Log in'.

Choose your browser from the list below for instructions on how to enable cookies.

  • Internet Explorer 6 and 7
  • Firefox
  • Opera
  • Safari (Mac)
  • Firefox (Mac)

Internet Explorer 6 and 7

  • click Tools, then Internet Options
  • go to the Privacy tab
  • select any setting except 'block all cookies' (Recommend Medium High)
  • click apply and OK

If you use custom settings on Internet Explorer, make sure the ‘always allow session cookies’ box is checked within the Advanced Privacy Settings.

Firefox

  • click Tools, then Options
  • select the Privacy section
  • tick 'accept cookies from sites' box
  • choose the "keep until" option that you wish
  • click OK

Opera

  • select Tools, then Preferences
  • select the Advanced tab
  • from the left hand menu select Cookies
  • select the 'accept cookies' option

Safari (Mac)

  • go to Safari option on the toolbar
  • select the Preferences option
  • click the Security tab
  • choose either the Always or Only from sites you navigate to option

Firefox (Mac)

  • go to Firefox option on the toolbar
  • select the preferences option
  • click the Privacy tab
  • tick 'accept cookies from sites'
  • choose the 'Keep until' option that you require

To add the Internet Bank to your trusted site list follow the instructions for your chosen browser below.

  • Internet Explorer 6 and 7
  • Firefox (PC & Mac)
  • Opera

Internet Explorer 6 and 7

  • click Tools, then Internet Options
  • click the Security Tab
  • select the Trusted Sites Zone by clicking on the green tick
  • click on the Sites button
  • add https://onlinebanking.nationwide.co.uk in the 'add this website to the zone' box
  • click Add

When you attempt to log in to Internet Banking from www.nationwide.co.uk, you may get a security warning after you have added https://onlinebanking.nationwide.co.uk to your trusted sites. The warning will look like the one shown below. Click OK to allow your browser to take you to the Internet Bank log in page.

  • click Tools, then Options
  • click the Privacy tab
  • click exceptions
  • type https://onlinebanking.nationwide.co.uk in the Address of website field
  • click allow

  • select Tools, then Preferences
  • select the Advanced tab and select cookies
  • click Manage cookies
  • in the server manager selection box type https://onlinebanking.nationwide.co.uk
  • click add
  • in the next box that appears, type https://onlinebanking.nationwide.co.uk
  • click OK
