Note 1: The settings shown above are the 'default settings' (that is, the settings that would be applied at the point of installing the software). They do not cover all the settings that you can change, only the settings that, if changed, are most likely to interfere with your ability to access our content.
Note 2: The browsers and operating systems shown above are those that we officially support. Other browsers may work perfectly well with our website but we cannot offer any help or advice for any that do not appear in the list.
Our Internet Bank has been designed and built with cross-browser compatibility in mind and we have a team who ensure that you are able to browse and interact with our Internet Bank using most browsers. However, although we believe that our Internet Bank should work on some of the more uncommon or beta version browsers and operating systems, officially we can only offer support on the range of browsers that we actively test our Internet Bank against.
Browsers we support
Our browser support is split into two categories:
- Full support: browsers that come under this category should not contain any issues such as broken layouts, obscured text that may cause difficulties in browsing or interacting with any pages across our Internet Bank
- Functional support: browsers that come under this category should work functionally and all pages and content should be accessible. However you may notice issues such as slightly broken layouts or colours
Fully supported browsers will be a combination of the most popular and latest versions. We will only offer support on final stable releases of new browsers and we endeavour to get these tested and then supported as quickly as possible. This is dependent on tests proving that the browser is safe and secure for you to use and that the user experience is not compromised.
Our Internet Banking Promise applies to both support categories so you can continue to use Internet Banking with complete confidence.
Browsers we support
| Operating System |
Fully Supported |
Functionally supported |
| Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 only |
Internet Explorer 7 Internet Explorer 8 Internet Explorer 9
Firefox 9
Google Chrome 16 |
Internet Explorer 6 |
| Mac OS X (10.4 +) |
Safari 5 Firefox 9 Google Chrome 16 |
We also support iOS and Android for mobile devices
What we don't support
- Any Beta versions of browsers
- Any browsers running on any Linux distribution (e.g. Konqueror/KDE, Firefox/Ubuntu)
- Camino, Omniweb or Shiira on Mac OS X
Beta versions of browsers are still in development and we need to ensure they work correctly with our Internet Bank and systems. Our Internet Bank may work, however we can't provide you with any technical support and the Internet Banking Promise doesn't apply until the browser is supported.
Support is given on the basis that you don't switch off certain features in the browser settings (e.g. disabling JavaScript) or customise the browser in ways that may affect how it works (for example, adding browser extensions that may cause content not to load or render properly). For tips and advice on browser setups visit our Troubleshooting site.
Is your browser supported?
This is the browser and operating system we believe you’re using to access this page:
If the information above is not correct, you can find more detailed information about your browser here.
Although we don't recommend you make too many changes to the way your browser is set up (just in case it interferes with your ability to access our services), there are some changes that you can easily make that may help you to browse our websites.
Note: The instructions below cover the set up for Internet Explorer on Windows and Firefox (for Windows and Mac). Other browsers will have similar features but the options may be in a different location.
Microsoft Internet Explorer (Windows)
If you have difficulty reading any text on screen, you can quickly and easily resize:
- On the View menu, choose Text Size
- Increase or decrease to suit your needs
Top tip: If you have a mouse with a scroll wheel, you can quickly change the font size by holding down the CTRL key and moving the wheel back and forth.
Note: If you increase the font size, some page layouts may go slightly out of line. This cosmetic side-effect should be weighed up against the benefit of clearer text.
To permanently apply font and colour changes:
- On the View / Tools menu, click Internet Options
- On the General tab, select Accessibility
- Click the three boxes to show ticks

Changing the default font
Using a sans serif font (such as Arial), rather than a serif font (such as Times New Roman) can make text easier to read.
- On the View / Tools menu, click Internet Options
- On the General tab, click Fonts
- In the Proportional and Fixed-width font lists, select the fonts you would like to use
Note: The majority of Nationwide's websites already use sans-serif fonts and you may not need/want to change this in your browser.
Changing text and background colour
Website authors and designers often specify particular fonts, typefaces and background colours for their pages, and the combinations can sometimes make the text difficult to read. You can override these settings by choosing your own preferred, clearer colour scheme - black text on a yellow background gives a high contrast:
- On the View / Tools menu, click Internet Options
- On the General tab, click Colors
- Click on the tick box labelled Use Windows Colors
- Click Text, and select the colour you want. Click OK
- Click Background, and select the colour you want to use. Click OK
To hide images on web pages
If you are accessing our services on a slow internet connection (perhaps you are travelling and not using your normal faster connection) or there appears to be a temporary slowdown with your Internet Service Provider (ISP), you might want to switch off image-loading. Our websites should work perfectly well without images displaying (but if not, please let us know) and will speed up page loads.
- On the View / Tools menu, click Internet Options
- On the Advanced tab, scroll down to Multimedia
- Click on Show pictures to remove the tick
- Click on Apply, and then click on OK
To change the size of the window
Click Full Screen on the toolbar.
There are more options to make websites easier to read, such as removing animation and expanding text. To look at the other options.
- On the View / Tools menu, click Internet Options
- Select the Advanced tab
- Choose the options you would like
Firefox
Firefox offers a number of accessibility options similar to Internet Explorer. In addition, Firefox lets you resize text beyond the 2-up, 2-down steps that Internet Explorer offers (making it a better choice of browser if you are visually impaired).
To change font size
- Go to View Menu
- Choose Text Size and select Increase or Decrease
Top tip: If you have a mouse with a scroll wheel, you can quickly change the font size by holding down the CTRL key and moving the wheel back and forth.
Note: If you increase the font size, some page layouts may go slightly out of line. This cosmetic side-effect should be weighed up against the benefit of clearer text.
To stop images loading
- Go to Tools > Options (on the Mac choose Firefox > Preferences)
- Select the Content tab
- Uncheck Load Images
Our Accessibility pages provide further support for users with specific accessibility requirements.
At Nationwide we recommend that you keep your browser up-to-date with all security patches.
You can find out more on our security site.
You can find the latest versions of the browsers that Nationwide currently supports here.
We’re unable to offer any support for beta versions of browsers as these browsers are still in development and may have bugs or security problems that haven’t been resolved. If you’re using an unlisted or beta version browser, the site may still work, however we can't give you technical support and you may not be able to use the Internet Bank in full.
