Account Number Formats
Formats for Internet Bank Registration
If you are registering for Internet Banking you need to key your existing Nationwide account number as follows.
If you have a FlexAccount you should key the six digit sort code and the 8 digit number as it appears on the card or statement. Sometimes a FlexAccount number has 9 digits with a 6 as the first digit. If this is the case, you may ignore the 6 and use the following 8 digits with the sort code.
If you have a mortgage you should type in the full account number as it appears on your mortgage statement
If you have a Credit Card or Gold Card you should key the sixteen digit card number starting 44935.
If you have a Savings Account with a Card e.g. CashBuilder Card, InvestDirect, SmartAccount Card, Regular Savings you should key the six digit sort code and the 8 digit account number as it appears on the card or statement.
If you have a Savings account with a Passbook you should type in the full account number as it appears inside the passbook e.g. branch code or prefix and the account number 0234/123456789.
If you have a Savings account with a Bond you should type in the full account number as it appears on the Bond Certificate e.g. branch code or prefix and the account number 0234/123456789 or 123-1-12345678-12.
If you have a Cash Child Trust Fund you should type in the full account number as it appears on the Child Trust Fund Certificate e.g. branch code or prefix and the account number 0234/123456789.
Formats for Regular Savings Applications
If you are opening a Regular Savings and you have an existing Nationwide account you need to key your account number as follows.
If you have a FlexAccount you should key the six digit sort code and the 8 digit number as it appears on the card or statement. Sometimes a FlexAccount number has 9 digits with a 6 as the first digit. If this is the case, you need to ignore the 6 and use the following 8 digits with the sort code.
If you have a BusinessInvestor, CashBuilder Card, InvestDirect or SmartAccount Card you should key the six digit sort code and the 8 digit account number as it appears on the card or statement. If you have a different Savings account you should type in the full account number as it appears inside the passbook or on the Child Trust Fund Certificate e.g. branch code or prefix and the account number 0234/123456789 or 123-1-12345678-12.
If you have a Credit Card you should key the sixteen digit card number starting 44935.
Formats for Payments and Transfers and Transfer Money
For FlexAccount, CashBuilder Card, InvestDirect, SmartAccount Card:
- Enter the sort code and 8 digit account number.
- If your FlexAccount number is displayed in the format 1234/612345678, then enter the sort code and the last eight digits, for example 070116 12345678
For Regular Savings and BusinessInvestor:
- This should be an 8 digit number as it appears on the card or statement. Do not enter the sort code.
For Other Savings Account Numbers:
- Account numbers are printed on the inside cover of passbooks or on your Child Trust Fund Certificate
- You should type in the full account number as it appears inside the passbook or on the Child Trust Fund Certificate e.g. branch code or prefix and the account number 0234/123456789 or 123-1-12345678-12
Finding your account number
Your account number appears in a number of different places.
If you are not sure what your account number is, please check the following.
On your card:
- On a FlexAccount, CashBuilder, InvestDirect or SmartAccount card you will find your account number printed along the bottom of the card. Take care not to confuse this with the large card number printed in the centre as this changes every time a new card is issued. You need to enter your account number as follows: enter your 4 digit branch prefix, a forward slash, the number 6 and then your 8 digit account number. If your prefix was 1234 and your 8 digit account number was 12345678, you would be required to enter 1234/612345678
- If you have a Credit Card or Gold Card you will find your 16 digit account number printed across the middle of your card. It should be in the following format 44935XXXXXXXXXXX
On your chequebook:
- Your 8-digit account number is printed along the bottom of your chequebook and also on the top right hand corner above the space where you fill in the date
On your statement:
- For FlexAccount, CashBuilder, InvestDirect and SmartAccount your account number will appear at the top of your statement and may also contain a branch number
- On Credit Card and Gold Card statements your 16 digit account number appears on the top right corner and also on the detachable Bank Giro credit slip at the foot of the statement. It should be in the following format 44935XXXXXXXXXXX
- On Mortgage year end statement your account number will be displayed on the top left hand side
On your e-Savings welcome letter:
- On your e-Savings welcome letter your 8 digit number appears in the boxed section
On your Savings Account Passbook:
- If you have a Savings Account with a passbook your account number is printed on the inside of the front cover
On your Savings Account Bond Certificate:
- If you have a Savings Account with a bond certificate your account number is printed on the front of your certificate
On Your Notice of Mortgage Rate Change:
- On your notice of mortgage rate change letter your account number will be displayed within the 'Payment Details' box at the bottom of the page
