Requirements

Before getting started you need to ensure you have the following:

  • a pocket PC device, sometimes called a PDA
  • a connection method
  • your Internet Service Provider's telephone number, user name and password
  • have downloaded 128-bit encryption software onto your pocket PC
  • register for Nationwide Internet Banking and have your customer number, memorable data and passnumber to hand. If you cannot remember your memorable data you can set up another via 'sign on details' within the Internet Bank

To connect to the Internet and Nationwide

Having input the settings you can connect to Nationwide by following these easy steps.

1. Open the browser

  • from the Start Menu select "Internet Explorer", "Tools" then "Connect"
  • check the connection shown is the one you wish to use
    (The default connection may be changed if necessary via; "Internet Explorer", "Tools", "Options" then "Connections")

2. Set up your phone or connection device

For a mobile phone, before selecting "Connect", enable the Infrared function on your phone and align the Infrared ports.

3. Dialling your ISP

Select "Connect" on your Pocket PC and it will dial your ISP. Your Pocket PC will advise you if your details have been authenticated.

4. To go to Nationwide

When you are connected type www.nationwide.co.uk in the address bar and select "Go". You should see a complete Nationwide Homepage screen. If the browser requires you to scroll right, then you need to tick "Fit to Screen" - selected from "View" at the bottom of your browser. To disconnect, select "Tools" and "Disconnect"

5. To Save Nationwide Mobile Banking as a Favourite

  • when at the Nationwide Homepage, click the Favourites folder at the bottom of the browser
  • select "Add/Delete" tab and select the "Add" button
  • check "Nationwide Mobile Banking" is present in the "Name" box and select "OK"
  • "Nationwide Mobile Banking" will now appear in your list of Favourites

Homepage

Going to www.nationwide.co.uk on your pocket PC gives you a redesigned homepage offering options of:

  • mobile Internet Banking sign on
  • details of how to register for Internet Banking
  • information about what Mobile Banking offers you

Signing on

To access your accounts you need to sign on to the Internet Bank. To do this you'll need to enter your:

  • customer number
  • one of your memorable data
  • passnumber
    (These will have been sent to you when you registered for Internet Banking via a PC or Mac)
  • register here for Internet Banking
  • check the Cookie box and your pocket PC will remember your password in future
Remember to "sign off" before leaving the secure banking site.
If you receive the message "The page you are looking for cannot be found" when trying to sign on, you may not have downloaded the encryption upgrade. If you have, you may need to reset your device.

Security

When using our Mobile Banking service, you automatically benefit from our Internet Banking Promise.

We will refund any money taken from your account if you innocently suffer fraudulent use of Nationwide's Mobile Banking service. To limit the potential for fraud you should take all sensible precautions such as not divulging your security data.

So, with our promise, you can be safe in the knowledge that Nationwide has your interests at heart.

Encryption

Product information on our site may be accessed without any encryption upgrade.

Pocket PCs purchased after January 2002 will usually have 128-bit encryption as standard.
