Browser support - PC and MAC

In order to keep up to date with advances in technology and to ensure efficient support and testing, we have classified the browsers you can use to access Internet Banking into two categories. Our website is optimised for use with the latest versions of the most commonly used browsers (for example Internet Explorer 7). We will continue to guarantee that the site will work with less common and older browsers (see below for a full list), however we will not guarantee that the display will be perfect when using these browsers. Our Internet Banking Promise applies to both categories so you can continue to use Internet Banking with complete confidence.

If you are using an unlisted browser, the site may still work, however we will be unable to offer technical support or the Internet Banking Promise for this.

For a PC:

• a 486 processor or above
• operating at least at 66 Mhz
• a Hayes compatible modem with a minimum transfer rate of 56000 baud (or 56k) or any broadband connection (remember to always use a firewall and have up to date anti-virus software)
• VGA graphics with a screen resolution of 800 x 600 or above using 256 colours, (see screen resolution below)
• Windows NT4, 2000, XP or Vista and

a 32 bit "Java enabled" browser that supports 128 bit encryption, from the following:

Fully supported

• Internet Explorer versions 6 and 7
  (Please note: Microsoft are preparing to launch Internet Explorer version 8, currently this browser is only available as a beta version which means not all features are available. We won’t support this browser until it’s available as a full version)
• Firefox 2
• Firefox 3

Functionally supported

• Internet Explorer version 5.5
• Opera 9

For a MAC:

• Any MAC that runs OS X, an Apple iPhone or iPod Touch
• a modem with a minimum transfer rate of 56000 baud (or 56k) and
• VGA graphics with a screen resolution of 800 x 600 or above using 256 colours, (see screen resolution below)

a "Java enabled" browser, from the following:

Fully supported 

• Safari 2
• Firefox 2
  (Please note: Firefox 3 has just been released, we’re checking our site and Internet Bank to ensure it’s compatible and will support this browser as soon as possible)

Screen resolution

Internet Banking has been designed with a screen resolution of 800 x 600 in mind, however you should also be able to use it well in 1024 x 768.

We recommend that users should upgrade to the latest versions of your browser to get the most benefit from Internet Banking. You can download the latest versions of these browsers for free, subject to your usual internet telephone charges, from www.microsoft.com, www.opera.com and www.mozilla.com
