Mortgage life insurance

If I'm no longer around, at least you won't have to worry about the mortgage.

A mortgage is a big commitment. You don't want your loved ones to have to worry about how they're going to make the repayments if you're not around. Even if you're not earning a salary, your contribution to the household is still invaluable. How would your family cope and make ends meet without you?

With mortgage life insurance (known as Mortgage Life Assurance), you know that the mortgage could be paid off if you die during the term of the plan, so your loved ones wouldn't have to think about selling up or downsizing. Mortgage Life Assurance is brought to you by Nationwide and provided by Legal & General.

Choose between Fixed cover OR Decreasing cover

Fixed cover (known as 'level term')

  • Your cash lump sum value remains the same over the term of the plan.
  • Designed to help protect an interest only mortgage

Decreasing

  • Your cash lump sum value decreases over the term of the plan roughly in line with your decreasing mortgage debt.
  • Designed to help protect a repayment mortgage.

Get the right level of cover

You may want cover that will simply pay off the mortgage, or you may decide your dependants will need some extra money on top. So you may want to take out additional cover to provide a lump sum greater than your outstanding mortgage.

Waiver of premium: Pay a little extra to cover yourself if you can't work. This benefit pays your premiums if you become too ill to carry out your normal occupation for 26 weeks or more due to incapacity caused by illness or injury.

Critical illness Cover: Critical Illness cover provides protection if you should be come critically ill. The policy pays out your chosen amount of cover if you're diagnosed with one of the specified illnesses and are eligible to claim during the policy term.
