The following legal information is only applicable to policies taken out with Nationwide Building Society. If your policy was taken out with Portman Building Society please refer to the legal information in your policy booklet.

The Insurer

If we cannot settle a complaint to your satisfaction through our internal complaints procedure, you may refer the matter to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS). Referral to the FOS does not affect your right to take legal action against the Insurer or Nationwide.

We are covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). You may be entitled to compensation from the scheme if we cannot meet our obligations. This depends on the type of business and the circumstances of the claim.

Insurance advising and arranging is covered for 100% of the first £2,000 and 90% of the remainder of the claim, without any upper limit.

Unless otherwise agreed, the law for the part of the UK where you live will apply and documentation in relation to this policy will be in English.

Nationwide will not provide you with any advice or recommendation as to the suitability of the insurance products on this website, so that you can make your own informed decision.

Always give us accurate information

It is essential you give us accurate information and tell us about anything that might affect your application. If you don't, we may not be able to pay any claims you make.

Stay covered when you switch

If you have existing cover and want to switch to us, make sure that your new Nationwide policy starts as soon as your old one ends.

Regularly review your insurance needs

Your circumstances may change over time. Remember to regularly review your insurance needs and tell us of any changes you want to make.

Make sure you understand what you're getting

Please ensure that this policy is right for you and that you understand what is and is not covered. If you make a claim that is not covered or is excluded by your insurance, we won't be able to pay your claim or refund your premiums. So if there's anything you don't fully understand, please ask us to explain it to you before you go ahead. That's what we're here for.
