Terms and conditions
This site provides only a very brief guide to the Nationwide Income Protection Plan. All information is provided as at June 2009 and may change.
You'll find full details of the standard cover and exclusions in the Policy Wording. You can ask for a copy at any Nationwide Branch. Non-standard terms may apply, depending on your circumstances.
You need to apply for the Nationwide Income Protection Plan and cover is provided only if you are accepted.
The insurer
The Nationwide Income Protection plan is an Aviva Health UK Limited policy underwritten by Aviva Life & Pensions UK Limited.
Your right to change your mind
You get a full money-back guarantee. When you receive your plan documents, you will have 30 days to examine them in detail, during which time you may cancel and receive a full refund.
Enforcement
Only the plan holder and the Insurer are parties to the plan. Other persons including insured persons will have no right under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999 to enforce this plan or any part of it. This will not affect any third party right or remedy if available apart from the Act.
Termination of the contract
Aviva may cancel cover upon non-payment of premium, although they may at their discretion reinstate cover if the premium is subsequently paid within 14 days.
Whilst Aviva will not cancel a plan because of the number of eligible claims, they may at any time terminate cover if the plan holder fails to observe the terms and conditions of the plan.
Compensation
Aviva Health UK Limited is covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. You may be entitled to compensation from the scheme if they cannot meet their obligations. This depends on the type of business and the circumstances of the claim. Most types of insurance business are covered for 100% of the first £2,000 and 90% of the rest of the claim. Further information about compensation arrangements is available from the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.
Law
The law and courts of England will apply in any legal disputes.
State benefits
The benefit paid under the plan may affect your claim to some means tested State benefits. Your entitlement to state incapacity benefit won't be affected. State benefit rules may change.
Taxation
The present tax-free treatment of the plan benefits may change. The information provided is based on Nationwide's understanding of current tax rules, legislation and HM Revenue and Customs practice, all of which may change.

For various legal, regulatory and customer service reasons, calls made to and by the Nationwide helpline may be recorded.

In relation to income protection insurance, Nationwide Senior Financial Consultants give advice only on the Nationwide Income Protection Plan. To comply with the Association of British Insurers (ABI) Code of Practice for the sales of life insurance (non investment business), Nationwide Building Society is defined as an intermediary which acts as your agent and accepts responsibility for the advice provided and the arrangement of your insurance.
