How to apply for your home insurance
If you currently hold a Nationwide home insurance policy and wish to upgrade your cover please call us on 0800 30 20 10.
The Nationwide home insurance online application is quick and easy. You will be guided through each stage of the form and prompted to fill in all necessary information. If you need help use the information icons spread throughout the form. To find more information about the application process please select the relevant tab below.
When getting your Nationwide home insurance quote, it will make the process a lot simpler if you have certain items of information to hand. For example:
For contents insurance:
- how much your contents are worth (use our contents calculator as a guide)
- any valuable you want covered inside the home worth more than £2000
- any personal possession you want covered inside and outside of the home worth more than £2000. If you include an item here you do not need to cover it as a valuable inside the home
- what type of door and window locks you have
- what type of alarm you have (if any)
- details of any claims you have made in the last 3 years.
For buildings insurance:
- The year your property was built.
- What the roof is made of.
- What the walls are made of.
- Details of any claims you have made in the last 3 years.
- 1. Your details and basic quote
This is stage one of the Nationwide home insurance application. You will be required to provide some basic information about you and your property so that we can give you a quick basic quote. This information includes:
- Whether you want buildings cover, contents cover or both.
- Your date of birth.
- Postcode.
- Type of property.
- Year built.
- Number of bedrooms.
- 2. Your personal quote
Here is where you give us all of the other important information we need relating to you and your property and where you can add in or take away extra options such as accidental damage until you have the cover you want.
You will need to tell us:
- more information about you (marital status date of birth, occupation)
- more information about your property (such as roof and construction type, locks and alarms, if you are in a neighbourhood watch area, how much each day is the property occupied)
- how much cover you want for items that stay in the home (valuables) and you want to take out of the home (personal possessions) and specific details of any of these that are worth more than £2000 each
- details of any home insurance related claims you have made in the last 3 years
- what extra cover you would like. There is a choice of accidental damage for buildings and contents, home emergency, legal assistance and pedal cycles that you want covered away from your home
- the excess that you want to pay in the event of a claim.
When you select Update quote your personal quote will be displayed. You can then add or remove extra covers and select Update quote again to find out how much these covers will cost you.
When you are happy with the quote select Apply.
- 3. Applying & Paying
When you select Apply you will be asked to supply your name and contact details.
You will now be asked to read and confirm that you agree with:
- a series of statements about you and your property
- that you have read and agree to the declaration and use of your information.
When you have done this select the Summary option and you will be presented with a complete summary of what you have selected to buy. You should check the summary carefully, read or save the documents and indicate you have done so. When you are happy select Payment Details.
You can choose to pay by Direct Debit monthly or annually (there is no extra charge for paying monthly) or you can make a single payment by Credit Card.
When you select Submit your payment will be checked and you will receive confirmation that your application is complete.
