    • One in seven (14%) homes purchased in the UK are flats
    • Average flat size is around 750 sq ft (70m²), half the size of a typical detached house
    • Flats in London are more than twice the price of those in the North West
    • Scottish flats are the largest, generally having more floor area for each number of bedrooms than other UK regions
  • Terraced Houses
    • Just over one quarter (27%) of homes purchased are terraced
    • Terraces are the most popular property type amongst first-time buyers, with 38% opting for them
    • New build terraces are nearly 200 sq ft (19m²) larger than existing terraces and twice as likely to have four or more bedrooms
    • Terraced property prices have increased by 51% over the past five years, the fastest rate of price growth of all property types

    • One third of homes purchased are semi-detached
    • New-build semi-detached similar in size to existing semis but twice as likely to have a fourth bedroom
    • Semi-detached property prices have increased by 50% over the past five years, the same as the average rise for all property types
  • Detached Houses
    • One fifth of homes purchased are detached
    • A typical five bed detached house is twice as big as a typical terraced house
    • Three-quarters of new-build properties have four or more bedrooms
    • Detached property prices have increased by 41% over the past five years compared to an average rise of 50% for all property types
