Although recycling is becoming ever more popular, with most local authorities providing a recycling service, have you stopped to think about where the waste that you don't recycle goes? The chances are that it will find its way into a landfill site. And the fact is, not all of it has to.
Cut down on some of your green household waste - vegetable peelings etc - by home composting. Visit www.recyclenow.com/home_composting/ for more tips.
And instead of recycling paper, why not limit the amount of junk mail you receive in the first place? Go to www.mpsonline.org.uk for more information.
Your local authority should have a site where much of your household waste can be deposited and either recycled or disposed of safely, from TVs and fridges to garden waste and scrap metal.
Don't forget, never pour oil, garden pesticides or paint down drains as this can cause significant environmental damage.
Contact your local authority to find out more about their waste and recycling measures. Or for more information go to:

- Waste Online at www.wasteonline.org.uk

Look out for the Mobius logos signifying that a product or part of that product can be recycled. The inclusion of a figure in the logo shows the percentage of the product that has been produced from recycled material.
